Welcome to Spark

Our Story & Vision

From the strong roots of The Grove Counseling & Wellness Center emerges a new light: Spark Counseling & Wellness.

This name reflects our evolution—not as a departure from who we’ve been, but as an expansion of what we offer, how we heal, and where we’re headed.

At Spark, we believe that healing begins with a spark—a moment of courage, curiosity, connection, or insight. Through that spark, transformation grows.

“Our vision is to ignite healing, growth, and connection through integrative counseling, creative practices, and embodied care.”

About Us

What We Believe

Innate Capacity to Heal — We hold deep trust in the wisdom within every person. Sometimes life dims that spark—but healing is possible, and you don’t have to do it alone.

Embodied, Integrative, and Creative — Healing isn’t only cognitive; it’s lived, felt, and expressed. We weave together somatic practices, expressive arts, nervous-system attunement, mindfulness, and relational connection.

A Growth-Oriented Community — Healing happens in connection: with self, others, and community. Whether through therapy, retreats, or trainings, Spark is a place of belonging and growth.

Our Approach & Services

At Spark Counseling & Wellness, we offer a spectrum of healing pathways, including:

Somatic Therapies

We understand that trauma, stress, and emotions live not only in the mind, but also in the body. Somatic approaches help clients connect with physical sensations, regulate the nervous system, and release patterns of tension or overwhelm.

Creative & Expressive Arts Therapies

Sometimes words aren’t enough. Through art, movement, writing, and creative expression, clients can access deeper layers of healing and self-discovery.

Trauma-Informed & Integrative Approaches

We specialize in trauma-informed care, drawing from multiple modalities to create a safe, personalized healing path.

Relational & Attachment-Based Counseling

Relationships—past and present—shape how we see ourselves and connect with others. We help clients explore attachment patterns, build secure connections, and create healthier relationships.

Grief & Loss Counseling

Grief touches every part of who we are—our bodies, our minds, our relationships, and our sense of meaning. We honor grief as a natural and deeply human process, not something to “get over,” but something to move through with support.

Embodied Therapy for Families & Relationships

Our bodies hold stories—not only our own, but often the stories of our families and relationships. In embodied family and relationship therapy, we create space for each person to be seen, heard, and felt, while also noticing how bodies and nervous systems impact connection.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Somatic therapy focuses on the connection between mind and body. It helps you tune into the physical sensations, impulses, and rhythms that reflect emotional experience. By learning to notice and regulate your body’s responses, you can release stored tension, calm your nervous system, and restore a sense of safety and balance.

Parts work, based in the Internal Family Systems model, views each person as having different “parts” or aspects of self — such as inner protectors, critics, or wounded younger parts. Therapy helps you get to know these parts with compassion, so they can heal and work together in harmony rather than conflict.

Somatic Experiencing® is a body-based approach to resolving trauma. It supports the nervous system in completing the natural stress responses that were interrupted during overwhelming experiences, allowing the body to release activation and restore regulation and resilience.

Polyvagal Theory helps us understand how our nervous system responds to safety and danger. In therapy, we use this framework to recognize and shift physiological states — helping you move from survival modes (fight, flight, freeze) toward connection, calm, and emotional regulation.

Each session is collaborative and tailored to your unique needs. Ashley combines talk therapy with somatic awareness, gentle guided exercises, and creative or expressive methods when appropriate. The pace is always attuned to your comfort and readiness.

Not at all. You don’t need any artistic skill or prior experience. These approaches are simply tools for expression and awareness — ways to help you connect with what words sometimes can’t reach.

The duration of therapy varies depending on your goals and the depth of the work you want to do. Some clients find benefit from short-term, focused support, while others choose longer-term work to explore deeper patterns and build lasting change.
