Our Therapists

Our Mission
Our Mission here at Spark Counseling & Wellness is to offer affordable and conveniently located treatment in a serene setting with evening and weekend sessions offered. Our therapists see individuals, couples, families, children and adolescents utilizing a variety of therapy approaches and specialties. We believe in the inherent wisdom in all of us that is capable of healing and moving forward in our lives no matter where we start. Our therapists meet our clients where they are and assist them on their journey into living their most abundant, coherent, energized, and embodied lives.
Therapy is not easily described, and varies depending on the personalities of the therapist, client, and the particular problems you bring forward. Many times, people seek therapeutic help because they have experienced some trauma or roadblock in their lives. We at The Grove believe that all people are born with an innate ability to heal, but sometimes we need help to get to that healing.
Therapy can have benefits and risks. Since therapy often involves discussing unpleasant aspects of your life, you may experience uncomfortable feelings like sadness, guilt, anger, frustration, loneliness and helplessness. On the other hand, psychotherapy has also been shown to lead to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and significant reductions in feelings of distress. But there are no guarantees of what you will experience. Our first few sessions will involve an evaluation of your needs. By the end of the evaluation, your therapist will be able to offer you some first impressions of what your work will include and a treatment plan to follow. If you decide to continue with therapy, you should evaluate this information along with your own opinions of whether you feel comfortable working with us.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Somatic therapy focuses on the connection between mind and body. It helps you tune into the physical sensations, impulses, and rhythms that reflect emotional experience. By learning to notice and regulate your body’s responses, you can release stored tension, calm your nervous system, and restore a sense of safety and balance.
Parts work, based in the Internal Family Systems model, views each person as having different “parts” or aspects of self — such as inner protectors, critics, or wounded younger parts. Therapy helps you get to know these parts with compassion, so they can heal and work together in harmony rather than conflict.
Somatic Experiencing® is a body-based approach to resolving trauma. It supports the nervous system in completing the natural stress responses that were interrupted during overwhelming experiences, allowing the body to release activation and restore regulation and resilience.
Polyvagal Theory helps us understand how our nervous system responds to safety and danger. In therapy, we use this framework to recognize and shift physiological states — helping you move from survival modes (fight, flight, freeze) toward connection, calm, and emotional regulation.
Each session is collaborative and tailored to your unique needs. Ashley combines talk therapy with somatic awareness, gentle guided exercises, and creative or expressive methods when appropriate. The pace is always attuned to your comfort and readiness.
Not at all. You don’t need any artistic skill or prior experience. These approaches are simply tools for expression and awareness — ways to help you connect with what words sometimes can’t reach.
The duration of therapy varies depending on your goals and the depth of the work you want to do. Some clients find benefit from short-term, focused support, while others choose longer-term work to explore deeper patterns and build lasting change.
